Transformation Problems?

Hi. New poster. Don’t know how often I’ll be here, but I’m a refugee from VampireKeeps after it shuttered. Since I can’t go there to ask my questions anymore, I’m your problem now LMAO.

I only have one vamp. He’s a Drac. His name is Ernie. I don’t know exactly how old he is but I’m guessing young. Why? He just learned to transform.

I know from reading articles and posting on VP that Dracs are the ones prone to transforming. It seems that most stick to just one form though. I’ve seen talk about bats and mist mostly. There’s lots of resources on how to contain those. Holy water or reinforced lids seem to be the go-to. That doesn’t help me with Ernie. LOL.

Because he is so trouble, he of course learned how to become mice. Not rat. I’ve seen people talk about their Drac turning into a rat. I’m talking multiple mice. Sometimes three, sometimes four. I don’t know how to explain that containing multiple mice is harder that containing mist, but it is. They all go in different directions and they always seem to find the weak point in the cage so they can escape. Once, when I put Ernie in his temp enclosure so I could clean his cage, they managed to chew a hole through the side and I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to lure part of him out from under the fridge and a hole in my cabinet and from behind the couch.

I guess it must be fun because he keeps doing it spontaneously. LMAO.

So, I guess what I am asking is if he’ll grow out of it? Is there a better way to contain him?

Thanks!

oh that sounds adorable! ☆*: .。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆

i've never heard of mice before but i know some people who have had similar problem with rat or bat transformations! holy water can probably also be used for them.

I’ve tried holy water which is why I included it as an ineffective method. I don’t know how it works for mist form but not for mice form. LOL.

Somehow he always manages to find the one place I missed. And with four little noses sniffing around it doesn’t take long.

I know I just am here because I am seeking help for my problem but it sounds like your Ernie has the same problem some of my pythons had because snakes are also escape artists. You need cage clips or some kind of enclosure that has a locking mechanism for the top so that they can’t push it off. I think you may need some heavy duty cage clips for a vamp though because I’m assuming that a vamp is a lot stronger than my ball python lol.

And barring that you can also just put a large rock on top of the cage to keep it down if you’re in a pinch. I’ve had luck with bricks if you know where to find bricks because there’s been times where a clip breaks or a latch breaks and I’ve had to improvise while waiting for a replacement to come in the mail.
